yep,pigs bladder. very first instruments were probably without fingerboard. therfore melodies could not been played-instrument was for accompaniment.
later fingerboards were added. The luthier told that there were 1-4 string versions, but he thinks 1 string is most rational as it is not easy to keep several strings in tune on bladder :)

All kidding aside, it's interesting to see someones creativity to make something useful out of what's leftover and usually gets thrown out.
