Stumbled over some russian, battery driven tubes (50ct per piece) Thought about building a Little Piezo preamp inside a guitar. So I bought an ultra cheap Harley Benton Traveller steel (59€) to realize the idea.

I have no idea...maybe in field radios or sth.? Here is a little more information about the tube: Link. The anode voltage is claimed with 110-120V but it works fine with any other voltage over 9VDC, especially when used only to rise the piezo signal a little. The heater voltage is 2.2V so with a little overheating 2.4V are ok (2 cells with 1.2V). The battery cases used in the guitar can take 3 9V blocks which results in a loud, distorted signal. I am currently experimenting with lower voltages and added an additional poti right in front of the jack. This seems to work fine so far.

Battery driven?? What were they originally used for? I'd sure like to hear more about these.
