Tubes

Stumbled over some russian, battery driven tubes (50ct per piece) Thought about building a Little Piezo preamp inside a guitar. So I bought an ultra cheap Harley Benton Traveller steel (59€) to realize the idea.

  • I have no idea...maybe in field radios or sth.? Here is a little more information about the tube: Link. The anode voltage is claimed with 110-120V but it works fine with any other voltage over 9VDC, especially when used only to rise the piezo signal a little. The heater voltage is 2.2V so with a little overheating 2.4V are ok (2 cells with 1.2V). The battery cases used in the guitar can take 3 9V blocks which results in a loud, distorted signal. I am currently experimenting with lower voltages and added an additional poti right in front of the jack. This seems to work fine so far.

  • Battery driven?? What were they originally used for?  I'd sure like to hear more about these.
