tone dampening in this size instrument is minimal. if i was going 4 or 6 string then yeah. maple it is. im trying to build cheap but usable instruments. also i have a shed load of pine here. it needs using. i only build using cutoffs and scrap wood.
As long some tone-dampening doesn't bother you - pine is great for smaller instruments (cheap and relatively easy to shape).
cheers dude. ill never look at "toilet paper wood" (pine) the same way again. its perfect for light necks.
