Those cheapie pups are fine. Bonus comes with harness at knobs and jack. If you don't want to cover your box top you can mount them under the lid, not angled, and use a thin bit if ferrous metal shaped like this - L - glued directly across the 4 inner poles and poking thru a thin slot in the lid. It works! I used a bit of baking tin. Anything that a magnet will stick to works.
Single coils can be noisy. I make sure I have grounded the strings too by wiring the tailpiece to ground as well.
Thanks! They work pretty good. I've got a couple songs on my page that my cousin recorded. One song has distortion and the other is clean. He was playing the amoroso box, but it has the same pickup as the punch. It is a single coil pickup, so there is a little humming when you start to turn up the tone.
