    I tried a similar thing with this other ukulele, but for that one the strings go through the neck and back to the top.  That one does have a little trouble with the strings binding up.  The paddle ukulele tuner configuration actually works pretty well.  I put about a 45 degree angle on the holes, and made the holes a little bigger than the biggest string.  It doesn't bind when I tune.      

  • That was awesome. I noticed you ran the strings through to the backside of the neck. How well does that work out? I had an idea for a guitar that would be headless and would appear to be without tuners at all but the only way I could figure out how to hide everything involves passing strings through the neck.....hard to explain. But I was worried that the tuners would not be good at fine tuning because of the friction between the strings and the wood. I pictured the strings "jumping" or "skipping" as you turn the tuners. Let me know how it worked out.
