Old Radio Amp Project

I've finally started to convert this smashing old radio into a retro guitar amp. I've bought a cheap little practice amp that has a great sound for such a small size, and I'm in the process of installing the workings into the radio. It did have a working valve radio, but I was far too scared of electrocution to even think about hacking the thing.I still haven't decided whether to leave the existing speaker in, or install the newer one from the amp. I suppose I'll try them both and see which I like the sound of better.

  • Doug, that's a great idea. I've already taken out the valves cleaned them up and started thinking about how to put it all together.

  • Cheers, Wes.

I'm not sure about the old speaker. I was chatting to a bloke who runs a small music shop, and he reckons that it might not have as wide a frequency range as a modern speaker. All middle with little or no top and bottom, perfect for crappy radio broadcasts in the late 50s but not suited to a guitar amp.

I suppose I'll have to wait and see.
