My gelatin hide glue setup

The stockpot holds a ton of water. That metal thing came with the stockpot I don't know what it's called. It's for sticking things up there and boiling water underneath. It's like a little shelf for the glue pot to sit in the properly heated water.With this setup, all that water has a lot of thermal mass and it's pretty easy to control the temp.The glue pot is just a pottery mug that is one of my toddler's drinking glasses.

  • It's got a glaze so it's non-porous. But I'll keep an eye out for a thinner ceramic container too.
  • Nice! Try using a thinner, non-porous (ceramic) container for the glue.
  • I did notice one issue with the setup last night as I was taking it down. Notice the thermometer is sitting in the water. I assumed that would mean that was the temperature of the glue as well, but I was wrong. When I took the temp of the glue it was 10-20 degrees lower than the water temp. One joint I made the other day with the lower temp glue seems to be holding fast, but the guitar is still in clamps for the other joint I made last night.
