This is a piece of fairly curly maple that is almost quarter-cut which we found while rummaging through the select hardwood pieces at our local hardware store. We just got lucky. It has a curly mahogany fretboard. I'm sure it won't last forever, but it will last for quite a while and it sure looks pretty. If it were mine, I would not have stained the light maple, but my daughter wanted it dark and old-timey, and it looks amazing.
