I did mine straight to the jack. Yeah the rod`s work well on solid bodies too ! have you ever tried a film piezo, i used one on my whiskey box bowed dulci. It goes between the bridge and the body..super nice sound.
thats awesome. I've just finished my fingerboard, a lovely piece of oak. I'll stick a photo up in a bit.
Do you need a preamp for the rod piezo, or is it soldered straight to a jack?? I've been trying to work out how to electrify mine and the rod seems to be the be best plan since i don't really have a box or body of any kind.
The hemlock one piece neck is radiused it was part of an old wood porch column and i did the box myself. It has a really cool sound, i was surprized how well it sounds acousticly with that small box but plugged in it`s awesome. I used a rod piezo under the bone saddle in the ironwood bridge.
Randy, thats one amazing instrument! I have to admit that i did use it as inspiration for my one. How does it play with a flat fingerboard, or is it rounded? and did you do the shaping of the box sides your self?

I know Ted Crocker has made one of his handwound pups for a fiddle already, the top was radiused to match the fingerboard.
Only thing is they can`t be cut, but they can also be used on solid bodies....great when using a fiddle type of bridge.
