Phillip - The mintyamp is a (very) small, low-power amplifier which uses the 9v battery as its power supply. It's fed by a piezo pickup in the bridge which Ted Crocker sells, amplifies the signal and sends it out to a speaker.
The minty amp/flatbed bridge make a terrific combination. If you carefully adjust the gain you can get it so that single string finger style is clean and clear while an enthusiastic strum gets you some gritty distortion. It's hard to believe I've got under $40 in the whole electrified chain: Flatbed/minty/CGspkrcab/driver.
I'm used to very high end tube amps in audio, so I tend to like a somewhat sweet sound which the CB spkrcab#2 gives me. When I learn a lick or two I'll add an audio post so folks can hear it.
Over the weekend I soldered up the battery, power switch, input from Ted Crocker's Tesla bridge, output to CBspkr cab#1, let it all swing in the breeze and played.
