If you've ever made an oil can guitar before then cutting the metal is similar to that although it's a bit thicker. Have to say though it was way easier than an oil can, there's a huge latch on the side of the box and when you open it the whole lid opens up so it's easy to work inside. Oh there wasn't much room where the latch is to get the neck in without cutting into the latch mechanism thingy, but I just managed and no more. I didn't put sound holes in it, you can leave the lid ajar to play it acoustic, and I've got a piezo inside. This thing handles mega distortion brilliantly. Good luck!
