I have found size of speaker matter too, ie a 1x12" speaker pushes more air than a 1x10 etc
hence small speaker in a large spaces arn't as loud as bigger speakers of the same wattage as they just push more air. many 60's bands use to use 2x12 fenders or vox or 4x10 amps.. These would be lost in a hall full of girls screaming. This is why cabs and speakers got separated.. so you can choose your speakrs for the space you play presumably...now just add a line out and a 150watt power amp plus a 4 x 12 speaker cab and you should beat your friends fender 20 the next time you play ;>)
... I still love your amp it's cool, i so want to build one
How thick is the speaker cloth, as that might east some air too ?
also try a blues driver pedal in front of it or a fuzz pedal with drive volume, that will make it louder
