varnish,polish or bare wood

I'm chuffed to my latest pinky plonk ukukele, however the mahogany neck is bare, should I varnish, polish or leave bare. I did use diesel on my last but im not sure.....any advice

pyrography fretboard

Without sounding stupid, as Im not  Luthier just  a bloke with glue , wood and lots  of ideas,but can you do a little light pyrography on the fretbored lm looking at burning  creeping Ivy style up the frets??
