The bridges work just fine. I like the looks of the wood/brass for a bridge, but want to make an all wood bridge for the octave mandolin I plan to build. I usually have to cut off some of the 1/4 x 2 that I use for the fret board and the scrap is what I use to make the base of the bridge. I use a small file (triangular) to make the slots for the strings in the brass rod.
