So I ordered 10 wooden cigar boxes and they're all gorgeous but I'm not sure what the best use is for the really shallow ones. Like this stunning red PDR box only has 1-1/4" of interior space....
I haven't been around in a lonnnnng time. Missed ya'll.
So, to get beck into building, I thought I'd start with a easy canjo. Which I quickly complicated by wanting two strings instead of one, trying a diatonic fret setup instead of
Well, I strung her up today. And the intonation issues are bad enough that there is no way I'm gonna upload a sound clip. Nope. But she's kinda pretty to look at. Not sure how I'll fix the intonation... I think the bridge is too high. Maybe. (EDIT: I
A while back I bought a Delta Grooves neck because, new to guitar building, I wanted to see how nice a neck could be. I finally put this into a nice Tabak box. Humbucker pickups, enclosed tuners, hardtail bridge.
There's a gap between the lid and the box of about 1/32" at it's greatest point. I think it's because of the hinges or maybe it's just because the lid and box weren't subjected to strict QC (It's a cigar box after all!)... But I'm looking for any adv
I know this is a little beyond typical CBG repairs but a neighbor brought this over to me yesterday. He said, "Could you take a look at this? It says Gibson on it. Does Gibson still make guitars? What do you think, can it be repaired?"
I've built 3 cbgs so far and haven't grounded any of them. This one, the one I'm moving the bridge on, really needs to be grounded. And I'm not 100% confident I know the right way to do it.
I'm going to take a stab at it though: I need to solder a wi
My very first fret. Coping saw, side snips, no fret wire radiusing, and a tiny flat file. It's loose but it's in there. You can see where the file slipped off the feet and hit the wood a little. Really itchin to purchase some tools to make this frett
The three day weekend gave me time to enjoy time with loved ones AND work on a guitar! Plus I received a spoke shave in the mail (on a Sunday! thumbs up Amazon), that made shaping the back of the neck very enjoyable. I just love the sound a plane mak
I'd like to preface this post by saying I'm an idiot sometimes.
I've just glued a finished fret board to a finished neck and need to remove a lot of hardened woodglue from these "finished" pieces. I'm guessing one or two of you may have had
Man, making your own pickups is labor intensive! I only got this far after breaking open a "wall wart" dc adapter, breaking out the transformer, getting the skinny wire out, snipping an altoid box, winding a thousand wraps of wire... Phew! Just have
Do I have to spend $300 to own a good wood plane? I'm trying my hand at making cbgs; I have 15 boxes, and I have 4 necks that are ready for some shaping. My goal is to make really nice looking necks (radiused, shaped, fretted, fret markers, etc). I'm
This build has been a little haphazard (my first build from top to bottom). After working on the neck for a while, I decide I need to lay a 1/4" red oak fret board on top to give the neck a little more strength. So I lay the red oak down on the neck
