  • Hi Jim....are the strings hitting the frets when you use your slide? They should not. If they do, the bridge and or nut might need to be raised a bit. It's hard to find that sweet spot where you can use your slide but also be able to fret the instrument if you choose not to use you slide. I have one of my guitars where the strings are set pretty high and that's the one I usually play with a slide. My others are set relatively low so I can fret them like a normal guitar. I have one that I can play both ways but it's hard to get that perfect string height.

If that's not your problem. It could be that when you slide up to a note, your not placing the slide directly over the fret marker...it should not be between the frets but over the top of the fret for the note your wanting to play.

You also need to make sure your slide is flat on all the strings in an even manner. Not angled.  That will just take some practice and technique.

As for lessons, I usually don't do that sort of thing as I'm really not a very good player CBG myself. My normal instruments are 6 string guitar and keyboards. Also, my schedule right now is pretty crazy.

    I hope this helps some.
  • Thanks for the 'friend', Jim.  I haven't posted much for a long time, because I've been busy building, etc.  If you get the urge, check out my site at http://TotalRojoGuitars.blogpot.com/ for a look at some of the stuff.

  • Hey Jim...nice to hear from you. I have some friends in Ashville. CBG's are great fun...to build and play. Some of the builds on here blow my mind they're so cool and professionally done. But there are just as many on the other end of the spectrum. Point is...just have fun with them. The second one (out of 12) I built is still the best sounding one I've done. You never know what's gonna turn out till you string em up and start playin. I'll try to answer any questions you may have. Take care!
