Fretless cbg

Ok I made a cbg with fretless finger board. When I try fretting a note it is dead. The fingerboard is straight and level. Would the string height be problem?  It is 1/8" at the nut and about 3/16 at the twelfth fret. nut.jpgbridge.jpg
