hi, any one know where i can get cheap cigar boxes
Comment by Ade on March 27, 2009 at 11:43pm
had a result the other day, i found some old mahogony shelves in a cupboard at work, a few nail holes, but about the right thickness for a few necks.
if it ever stops raining, i'll start chopping them up for my biscuit tins!

I'll leave it at one under the bridge then, thanks for the advice...

Fitting two will alter the impedance one way or another depending on how you wire it. It may suit your amp input better (a better match) but I doubt it will make any noticeable difference to sound quality

thanks for that smojo, do you think 2 under the bridge might make any difference.

Mick - I glue mine under the bridge. I made a CBG once with two piezos, one under the bridge and one near the neck. Bridge cam out tops. Less volume and muddier sound from the neck end.

When i made my first cbg, i glued the piezo pickup to the corner of the lid, does it matter where you stick it or is there a place that's the best. I thought I might put it under the bridge. I also thought about sticking a couple of piezos up there to see if it makes the amplified sound any better. Anybody know if this would work.

thanks for the info RandyRooster, I settled for mitring the corners, they're as close as I'm ever going to get without spending days sanding them down nice and even, stuck a bit of thick ply in for the base, stuck it together with some hot glue, waiting for it to settle down. Had an idea for the top of creating my own picture on some waterslide then varnishing it in. Lets see what happens.

1. Buy set square.
2. Decide on dimensions and mark out, using set square.
3. Check diagonals (measure diagonally corner to corner - should be exactly same both ways.
4. Cut out, feel joyful.
5. depends on your approach - I would use a vertical piece of inch x inch up each corner to pin it all together (wood glue, panel pins or clamps) though if its going to be 'load bearing', you might want to frame along all the edges, or even start with thick (1"?) walls with a ply top and bottom. On my 'JT' CBG I used a thick frame glued & screwed through the ends (no fiddly mitres), though there are much better solutions shown in the photo gallery
6. When dry, sand edges, throw on neck, few strings etc
7. Post pictures
Good luck!!

how the hell do you make a square box, it's harder than I thought.
