Hello everybody, I'm new to this so please bear with me.
I say a video on youtube of someone playing "can't be satisfied" on a CBG and had to build one. I just have a couple of questions.
I'm using a cohiba box. The lid touches the box only at the top and the bottom and not the sides. Do I need to glue in rails along the sides so there is a lip and the lid is seated on all four sides?
Also, I originally had the neck flush with the closed lid so it was touching. It didn't sound very good so I removed some material and now it sounds better. How much space should I leave between the neck and the lid? Right now it is barely a crack, just enough that it's not touching, but I'm wondering if the presure of the strings is pushing the lid and making contact. I was worried about removing too much and making the neck weak.

I think I now realize that I should have used the back of the box as the top. I didn't because I wanted the pretty side up, but also I thought that the solid wood would be better than the plywood back.(and I really wanted the pretty side up) Oh well.
I now see if I flipped it the top would be stronger and less likely to sag because it is more ridgid.
I'm gonna try inserting a lip to see what effect it has and will glue in if it sounds good.
Howdy Jeff,
You will save yourself a lot of heart-ache by getting the GittyMan's CBG Making Manual at www.GittyMan.com
At only $14 it is a steal, and has all you need to know about making that CBG.
The guy who wrote it is a member of our group here. Hopefully he'll see this message and chime in.
