just getting started w/ this cbg thingy and wanting to find some video lesson type stuff... wondering if there is a link to where KLB sells his cd's so I can get started w/ them and also if there are others out there that might have similar lessons in similar format. I'm still going back and forth w/ the freebie stuff available online but just want to expand it a bit..
Thanks!

Well, band or no band...audience or no audience...dog or no dog - like Jimi once said, "It's alright, I still got my guitar".
I know that boat!
as long as the dog doesn't send you outside or to the basement;) and its the other way 'round w/ the dog runnin in angst... ;)
you must have a very loyal dog, I know mine aint THAT loyal ;) ...
she sees the guit-fiddle come out and she usually finds a spot as far away as possible.
then when it really gets bad she tries to hop in my lap...
"look, I'm so cute and furry and much nicer to play with... I fetch the ball..."
nothing like 80#'s of pitbull tellin me my playin sucks;)
Its tuff to find folks to jam/practice w/ that really jive w/ what your doin at the time.
I think when that happens thats when bands get formed however loose, but its that chemistry thing... things advance at such a level...
fwiw, its nice to hear of someone in the same struggles tryin to learn.
keep bangin away and runnin folks off, or havin them run you off, whatever it takes...
years ago(learning bass) I used to count the apt office "noise complaints" as a good thing... as long as I wasn't gettin kicked out... ;)

Thanks guys! I have some experience from years ago w/ bass and very beginnings of guitar but that stuff is pretty foriegn to me as my fingers could never quite fit into makin chords on a 6 string. I got some of the basics, strumming and picking and hammer-on/pull-off, even a little slide work too. made myself a diddly bow a few months back and am gettin the hang of havin a pc of brass hangin on my pinky :) Theory is what I'm lookin for, I guess, so the KLB thing should be a good bet and I'll check out the other stuff too.
I'm at the point of, I can get the sucker in tune, find notes that sound pleasant together and come up w/ some what of a rhythm to puttin them together but not real sure if what I'm doin is ok... Mom says "it sounds pretty" but only helps on the ego and not on being able to figure out tunes I'd like to be able to translate to the alt tunings of 3 strings...
I have no aspirations of being a pro musician but it would be nice to keep folks interested at a bbq or something. "pretty" sounding scales and such only go so far in holding an audience;)
Thanks Again for the input, folks! I'm gonna see what the local music shop guy has to offer in regard to lesson, at least for a one or two time thing... learned a lot about bass that way back in the day:)
just thought the videos would be good to follow along with for a while to get some of it down before I try the 1-1 thingy...
I posted a review of both Keni's and John's videos awhile back but don't remember where.
John covers some more ultra basics - how to pick/strum and things like hammer ons/pull offs, slides a bit more - but doesn't really go into a lot of detail about how to put it together into songs.
Keni does a lot more theory and doesn't really cover the ultra basic mechanics as much. But the theory sometimes is a bit much - I studied music theory quite a bit when I was in school...but that was about 20 years ago and my memory is hazy. (I remember what the circle of 5ths is...but not how to write one out from memory) Even so I found myself having to do some research to brush up on some things watching Keni's video. Most of the songs Keni teaches aren't so much a full song as the basic melody and then a bit of info to help you figure out how to come up with your own intro/outro and fills.
They both have a lot of good info and I don't want to sound negative because that's not my intent at all - but to be 100% brutally honest I haven't seen a comprehensive video yet that's well geared towards taking someone who's never touched an instrument through to playing their first song. Knott Lenny's free video kind of does - but doesn't go anywhere from there and kind of tries to oversimplify things IMHO.
The big problem I think is so many in our community who are capable of teaching are a bit too far removed from the complete noob to remember how intimidating it can be when first starting. Most seem to have come to CBG's with some musical (and usually guitar) experience and think in terms of how to help someone who understands a 6 string guitar think in 3 or 4 strings. That and of course teaching through video is no replacement for one on one instruction where you can ask questions and get answers immediately and discuss things that are confusing.
Cool! thanks man! guess I gotta update my ebay thingy...
Thanks again!
