I don't have a ready supply of conventional shielded audio cable where I live, and I dislike shopping online. I found, while disassembling an old RCA cable the other day (long story), that, while very narrow gauge, there appears to be some stranded shielding around an insulated core.
Has anyone used this for shielded hookup wire inside the box? Does it work?
As I understand it, the premium shielded audio cables have a layer of thin foil shielding--supposedly less porous, I guess. This stranded stuff seems a little flimsy, to me.
Any thoughts? Anyone found another unconventional source for shielded cable for those of us in the hinterlands?

I had a bunch of old cables lying around; mostly RCA jack-ended things and connectors... These make good audio cable; as you say the wiring inside is frequently shielded with a wrap of tinfoil.
You can pick up a pretty long audio cable from radio shack pretty cheap; enough material for dozens of guitars.
