Hello all.

Hey everyone!

I'm a twenty something from the East Coast of Canada who recently found the world of Cigar Box Guitars. I've been a blues fan for a while and played guitar for nearly a decade, but somehow  missed this little musical gem. I'm trying my best to make up for lost time though!

I'm going to a workshop this weekend to learn how to make a CBG, which should be a lot of fun. Just thought I'd register on here to say hello and make some friends before I get my hands on one and the real fun begins! I can't wait to get learning and sharing my builds and whatnot. This is such a fantastic resource too.

Hopefully talk to you all soon!!

  • Welcom to the madness Oliver. Have fun at your workshop.
  • Welcome to the revolution.

Make friends with a local smoke shop/cigar store.
You can get boxes for next to nothing. My local guy gives away the
paper wrapped boxes and sells the nicer wood ones for 2 bucks.
After my first visit there he even got curious himself and built a CB Ukulele with
    his son.
    • 2 bucks, wow! That's amazing; I need to get googling and making some friends.

Thanks for the tip, that's really good to know.

  • Welcome!

  • Hi and welcome Oliver. Everyone here is more than willing to help each other..its almost like a continuous workshop here.
    • Hey Bobby,

Thanks for the welcome! I'd been creeping a week or so on here before I signed up and everyone does seem so helpful and friendly. It's nice to see a group of people all willing to help each other; I'm so used to sports forums where everyone is attempting to cut each other down that it's such a welcome change! I see many a lost hour spent on here in my future! haha

  • Hey hey Oliver welcome I'm new here as well I look forward to seeing some of your creations when you get started.we recently made the first one and already began on others and by the way it's true what they say once you start it becomes an addiction lol I by boxes n stuff all the time to experiment and I've only been at it a short time and built my first one lol anyway man glad your here there is so much good stuff and many good people here I'm takeing notes as I go on
    • Hey Chris,

Thanks for the warm welcome! This seems like a lovely community, although most people get a support group to get away from addictions, not encourage them! haha

Where do you find your boxes from? The workshop I'm going to provides all the materials but I know I'll end up wanting to make more so I'm curious where the best spots to find them are!

Great idea about the notes, I'd never thought of it. I've already seen a bunch of things on here I thought "that's awesome I'll find that later" and I never can! haha

    • You can find boxes at local garage sales and thrift shops and flea markets also eBay and searching online you can find pretty cool stuff also someone mentioned looking at your local tobacco shop to )
