Didn't know I could do it

Saw an article on CBGs about 2 months ago and became instantly addicted.  I've always been a mediocre guitar player because it was just something I did when I had the time and I was ok with that.  Built my first CBG 6 weeks ago just to see if I could, and I couldn't put it down.  Built 10 more since and hoping to spend my winter cranking em out.  Driving my wife nuts, but I'm having a blast!

  • Jason< i started this about two years ago. My wife considers it a self sustaining hobby. Sell one and it pays for supplies for three more. I had Jim Morris do a demo on one of mine with a short video so I could see what my skill level was. I dont play very well, be it six or three strings. I love to build them though. Working on a cookie tin right now. Problem I have is where to store the ones I have in my shop. I thought they looked great in the living room, I was told NO.

    Welcome to the CBG world!

    • Haven't sold one yet, but hoping to have a booth at the next village fair.
My workshop/dining room table was cute 12 guitars ago, but seems to be a source of contention lately.
The wife doesn't appreciate just how building guitars as a midlife crisis keeps me from buying a convertible and making advances on my secretary.
      Women, huh? Go figure
    • Which is why I keep telling wifey we can move to a condo if it has a workroom. ;-)It would be very hard to give up my basement workroom.
  • Brilliant, Jason! Beautiful work.

I'm also new to this. Was never a guitar player, but am committed to playing these well. Have built two - lunchbox and a Christmas tin. I'll get around to a cigar box one of these days.

    Cheers!

    • Thanks a lot, I hope you're enjoying it as much as I am.
Can't wait to see more of yours!
  • You should try to play many types of instruments, find what you have a talent for and what inspires you to be better for the other instruments in time.

Started on Guitar, moved on to Bongos, Dulcimer, Bass and now CBG.

  • I play the CBGs more than I play my guitars. Maybe it's because I'm also a mediocre guitar player, or maybe it's just part of the addiction.

    Either way, I'm playin.

    Welcome to the Nation.

  • Nice looking builds.

Look at this way, you can continue having fun, or you can sit around and let her drive you crazy.Hahaha

    • I try to keep a balance between both.  If she's going to complain I'd rather it be about something I'm actually doing ;)

  • Alright! Always great to find something you have a blast doing! Welcome!
