Picking Stick

My  last stick I made ,I decided to make the neck wider has I have really thick fingers,this brought me to thinking mayby it could be picked.So now I am thinking of changing the way I string it to a mountain dulcimer so i can play the dulcimer tabs.do you think it will work and what gauge strings should I use Mal(UK)
