What Order? Saw/Stain/Fret

Hey all. In what order do you all cut the fret grooves, stain/seal, sand, and put in frets? I guess I would cut the fret grooves, then sand, stain, and seal, and then add the fret wire. Only thing I'm thinking is that the stain and sealant would clog the fret grooves. Anyway... What's the trick to the process?

  • Im not sure what everyone else does, but I would sand first to get a good flat surface, grooves, then inlay fret markers if you're using them, sand properly, clean thoroughly, stain and seal, then frets... you can always lightly clean out the grooves before you install the fretwire.
Im sure that the wise ones have some tricks tho, so Il watch this discussion with interest!
