My first fretted build (left) originally had the humbucker(?) p/up now on the fretless. It was set straight but got little response from the 2nd string which was not directly over one of the 'screw things'. (need to work on part names!) Anyone else noticed this? I fixed the problem by slanting it for the fretless. They both both toggle between piezos/normal p/ups but I don't use the piezos (not traditional I know) as my bum notes sound better switched the other way. Still have to finish bridge heights etc but they play so ... manana. In the right hands they would sound cool through my Roland MicroCube. Any advice/thoughts/crits/tips etc?
I have experimented with humbuckers on various mass produced guitars and found the pole screw adjustments can make a difference on low action setups and are effective when the pickups are "raised up" giving a bit more attack to the sound, Fender even introduced staggered poles into their single coils, though using these 6 string pickups on 3/4 string cbg's is very much a compromise but should still work well, try raising up the pickup rather than twisting it, though whichever sounds best!
