Ideal fret board hieght above box?

I bought a pre made neck with a fretted board. I was wondering what the ideal height of the fret board to the box was? This build is going to be an acoustic with piezo frettable style instrument. Sorry for what has probably been asked before, but my search didn't turn up an answer.

  • Set the top of the fretboard around 7-10mm above the top of the box if you are using a floating bridge. If you are using a "hardtail" bridge, the top of the fretboard should be 5-6mm above the top of the box.

  • Somewhere between flat with the top and like a violin.  Whatever makes your hands happy.

  • I suppose a better question is, "What is the ball park of good, what is to much or too little?"
Clearly flush with the box is too little.
    What's too much?
  • As Duck said there are a few factors, I do like a bit of a gap to the body so my pick isn't always banging/scaping the top.

  • Above the lid of the box. It depends upon the height of the bridge and the height of the strings above the neck.
