Ok - don't beat me up too much on this. I'm making my first CBG and didn't have the bandsaw/tools to widdle my own neck. I bought a neck and wire fretted the fretboard and glued together. I looks ok I guess. My question: is there something that I can dress the side edges with to make it look clean?
thx people!

Yep. That's how I shaped my first neck too. Now I rough cut the neck profile with a band saw length wise. I cut a 45deg angle and then shape it. The neck almost looks faceted when I do this. That way I have a nice even profile.

Hi, I shaped my first neck with a rasp (carefully, and carefully marked out). Started with what you guys call stock lumber, 1 1/2 x 3/4. once happy with the shape, just sanded thru various grades of paper with a block. Did'nthave to come close to the fret board/face. i fretted mine and used a flat chainsaw file to finish the edges. they are pretty fine and dont' take much timber, just have to clean them often.

yea, I think I need a @#$% load of sanding. I wasn't sure if about scratching the fretboard itself, but suppose that's the only way I'm going to blend it together. Thx - i'm back to the drawing board. Guess when I built my first car project I was not a bad welder, but became a professional grinder.

Appreciate the notes - thx W. Sam
You can always do a lot with a sanding block and some elbow grease...
let's see what you got.
the best,
