Just cut these out with my hole saw set. 1/4" Oak, next I'll shape the edges then stain or paint... I like the versitility and I can make whatever size I need.

  • you can use tarp grommets frm LOWES

  • Phrygian Kid, I agree... I don't like to cut up a box much at all. I did think of another idea though. How about using a hole saw to cut out rings of whatever size (and color/ wood grain, etc) we want? keep it more rustic... I think the designs could be pretty cool actually. Makes me wanna try it anyway...

Tom B- I like that look too. I mean if we have a box that would look cool dressed up a bit- have at it. No rules, and how easy is it to get a new box if something doesn't work out...

  • I've looked all over my town for something simple and cheap to use for this. I was at the local farm hardwear store yesterday and found these "machine bushings" in the nut and bolt section. They are basically just washers. They come in a wide variety of sizes. I wanted something silver instead of gold in color. They were only .69 cents each so I thought I would give them a try. Time will tell if I like them. I countersunk a hole and set them flush with the lid and then glued a small piece of speaker screen to the inside.

  • Skip it. Why add unnecessary mass to your soundboard?
  • I use brass tarp grommets that I buy from my local farm store. Gitty sells them also, I get the colored or dark brass from Gitty. I also buy the oversized from Ben.

  • Many of the rings are brass grommets, similar to ones you find on tarpaulins (common tarps or tent sheets). They come in different sizes...available at local hardware, or various online sources. More fancy ones with screen inserts are found online...also through C.B. Gitty on this site.

  • excellent question. I see sizes out there in guitars that I can't find anywhere... Can't believe how expensive some of the ones I do find are. I have found a few really cool drain covers and strainers pretty cheep on ebay though. Always wondering if I have the name of the item wrong in the search or something...
