Bar Piezo Hum/Interference

Hello Gang. I am finally putting the finishing touches on my first build and much to my dismay, when i plugged in to make sure the electronics were working ok i am getting major hum and some squealing interference which gets worse if i touch the volume knob. I am pretty sure the pickup worked fine when i tested it after it's arrival from CB Gitty, but since then i have had to fit it into the groove i cut into my bridge bolt and it took on some heat which melted a bit of the heat shrink tube around the edge of the pickup.

I am just wondering if any of you more experienced builders can give me some advice as to whether or not i may have ruined the pickup, and if the hum on these things is common. Thanks again for any input you guys can offer.

check the mini socket you are pluggin into is not a stereo jack socket and is a mono one

Thanks for all the info 407bug! I have determined that the rod piezo and output jack work fine, it seems to be an issue with the volume pot. I notice there is no connection from negative post on volume pot to the casing. How crucial is that and could that be the issue maybe?

Hey Folks, I would like to once again thank you for all you input, it was very helpful. It turns out they forgot to make a ground connection from the case of the volume control to the negative post. A quick test with a scrap piece of wire proved everything is working as it should be. I will get pics up of my first born as soon as i get it assembled and strung up. Thanks again guys!
