A Beat Up CB

Hello All,

I am currently in the planning stages for build no 2.  I have a somewhat decent Arturo Fuente box but the paper label is in bad shape.  Other than sand paper, what is the best way to remove the label while maintaing a decent surface for finishing?  Also, the box is held together by a few staples.  I am thinking about running a bead of glue along the inside seams to add a little more strength.  Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the help!

  • Or just leave it as is and enjoy the patina?
  • Thanks everyonefor the good advice.  I will give it a shot.
  • I agree with Wes, but I'd try alcohol first since it might take enough water to soak the wood and you'd have to let it dry before sealing it, and you'd probably still have to use denatured alcohol or acetone to take the sticky off after the label slips.
  • if your box is rikkety enough that you think you need to stablize it, go ahead and glue some full lenght 1/4 wood strips... besides stablizing the box, they allow more purchase for your neck as it passes thru the box.

truth: 99% of the boxes are fine like they are for neck thru's... its only when you are doing other neck/box attachment skemes that box strength becomes much of an issue....

  • Wet it and the glue should melt and it _should_ slide off. Else, use denatured alcohol. Glue on the seams is not a bad idea. Done that. You can also use a perfing made of a 1/2"x1/2" strip cut lengthwise diagonal to make a right triangle piece. Cut to length as needed.
