  • Looks like C. B. Gitty has a package kit if you're just starting out:

    Just add solder...

  • For "Uke" any amp should work. (High notes-small amp, low notes-big amp) I would mount the Piezo inside near the bridge, Black wire to the barrel of the 1/4" phone jack (shield, or ground of guitar cord)...Red wire to potentiometer (volume knob) then other side (tip or inner wire) of the jack. If it is Too tinney (treble) an "orange drop" (type of capacitor used in guitars to control tone) bridged across the + - wires will give it a deeper tone. You can always use the amps controls and wire straight to the jack. For me I depends on what is laying around .... what ends up in the "Axe".
  • If you get your piezos from C. B. Gitty, I bet he'll send you some links for wiring. his piezos are good. Do NOT buy yours from Radio Shack or from smoke detector alarms, etc. I'll see what I can find for wiring diagrams online.

You ARE talking piezo and not magnetic pickups, right? Pups won't work with nylon strings.

Well, I guess that is what I want to do.  I know nothing about the wiring and what kind of amp is ok.  Enlighten me, please.  John, Nitro Class of 1964, now in Colorado.

  • I'm not clear on your question. Can you be more specific? I have built 11 ukes so far and they all have piezo elements under the bridge and plug into amps and play well. It is commonly done by many others on the 'Nation.
