Hey folks. Thinking of building a CBG bass and I have a question or 2. Does it matter what kind of magnetic pickup I put in it? I mean is there one specific for basses? Also, does the 3 or 4…Continue

Just introducing myself from across the pond. Built a 4-string cigar box guitar now tackling a bass. Having great fun in learning and being able to practise skills required. Didn't realise how much…Continue

3 piezos straight to the jack, positive/negative to proper tabs on jack, no problem.
Metal strings through 3 copper pennies & strings crossing over copper tube bridge, no problem.
Strings grounded? If not, problem. A good place to add your bridge/string ground is at the copper tube bridge.
Finished up my first CBB. 3 stringer, 3 piece lam neck, 3 piezo discs (one on side for 'drum').
Still need to oil it.
Question about pick ups: I'm running through a Zoom B3 pedal and getting a little static. If I touch the pedal with a barefoot or touch the cord head at the jack to ground it the static goes away.
Should I ground the jack somehow? It's just 3 piezos straight to the jack. The strings are in contact with pennies and a copper tube bridge (would that make the static?).
@Robert, love it man. Awesome you left the mop head attached.
Get a gig at the coffee shop, even if you don't make tips you'd still get paid to mop up when you're done :D
They asked me where I came up with the idea to build this. I told them, "what else are you going to do with a mop, an oil changing pan and a cast-off boiler room vent cover?"
It's a two-stringer - D-G, .080 weedwacker strings, a trowel for a tailpiece. It's all found parts except for the fretboard, which I'll finish nicely (and incongruously) sometime soon.
And it sounds great! A little soft, but coffee shop playable.
I'll post more photos on my page, if you're interested. Cheers!
Its long now I am afraid. Still I now have as of tonight a fully functional bass diddley bow. 34 inch scale length. I have yet to fit the twin piezo pickup as I have to pull them out of my LPG first, and I can't do that till my ThinBucker arrives. I will post a picture when its done and all oiled up and what have you
It was either Kay, Satellite or Jedson. I used to own a blonde short scale Jedson Telecaster bass, horrible thing it was
Kay guitars, god that takes me back. They always seemed to be for sale in catalogues, the kind where you can buy on tick, you know for a few quid a week until its paid off. As working class kids it was the only way we could afford an electric guitar in the 1970s
