I bought a 500K linear taper pot from Frye's electronics. This evening I thought I would christen my new soldering station and do the little glob on the back of a few of my pots and the first pot I grabbed was the one from Frye"s. This pot is from NTE Electronics and I could not get solder to stick to the back of this pot and I got it hot enough to melt the solder. My first thought was that it was me and then I grabbed a pot I bought from Gitty and did exactly the same things and in a much shorter time the pot got hot enough to melt the solder and produced a nice looking spot to use as a common grounding point. I went back to the pot from Frye's and still no cigar. I cleaned it with sandpaper both times and never touched it with my fingers. I have another reason to not like Frye's.

Thanks, I'm new to the magnetic pickup thing and so shielding is just now being added to my vocabulary.
suggestions..
1.. shield your control cavity and solder to that, soldering to pots sucks and is pointless, just drive a nail or screw thru the shielding to be ur common earth. I use alum trays that croissants come on
2.. If you really must solder to the back of a pot...
give it a little kiss with the dremel..
