Hi guys I have just started to build my second cbg and have just bought this TELE HOT RAILS pick up off e bay,it is only a cheap one but I don't intend spending a lot of cash until I become more experienced.
I not technically minded at all but would really like to be able to do every thing my self. would bit be possible for some kind person to make me a drawing a 5 year old child could understand to enable me to fit this pick up to a volume control and any other knobs that would improve the quality of sound with out breaking the bank.Thank for reading this and sorry for being such a dummy.I enclose a picture on my cheap'y pick upMal

Hi Mal,
Good luck with number 2 (number one looked great so I look forward to how this one turns out).
These type of pickups usually have 4 coloured wires and a bare one so you can coil tap them (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081112041044AAB8nGw). Wire colours change between makers so any idea what make it is?
Have you looked at the seymour Duncan diagrams? They are easy to follow for example
1 humbucker 1 vol 1 tone http://www.seymourduncan.com/pdfs/support/schematics/1hum_1vol_1ton...
As I said above check the colours on your pickup as they may differ.
If you can follow this one then it is just as easy to coil tap with a push/pull pot or use a 3 way switch (you have to make sure you get the right one as there are different lug configurations) like this one http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php...
Check out here for the full lists of what you can do http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/ (click on the "v" next to make your selection to see the choices)
Artecsound diagrams are also well drawn and easy to follow http://www.artecsound.com/wiring/wiring_book01.pdf
