rod piezo wiring question

getting ready to install a rod piezo, can't seem to find any videos anywhere or info regarding. If you plan on soldering the lead wire directly to the 1/4 inch jack how exactly do you go about it? There seem to be 7 very delicate wires, do you split them up and wire them to the opposing posts? Or do you solder them all to one post or???? Any wisdom here is greatly appreciated. Last time I installed a disk and just soldered one wire to each post so I though the rod would be the same.

  • Every rod piezo I've worked with has a micro jack plug at the end of the lead wire. I usually cut the wire about a half inch from the micro plug, The lead wire is composed of two parts... 1) an outer woven sheath, and 2) an inner shielded core. I will separate and pull back about an inch or two of the outer sheath, and twist it together... this is your ground wire (black). Then I use a wire stripper to expose the wire bundle in the inner core and then twist that wire together... this is your hot wire (red). After that I would solder the ground wire to the outer post on the 1/4 jack, and the hot wire to the inner post.

    • Awesome, I'll try that
