Background humming

Hi, I have just purchased a used Maniac guitar amp, it works fine except it has a constant background humm, even with nothing plugged into it.
Any ideas on what could be the problem, even better how to fix it?
Thanks in advance...

  • Thanks Zack..
  • usually a bad hum is a poor ground on the chassis...open the amp (only if you're familiar with high voltage electronics) and trace the grounds
  • Thanks Dave, no mine is worse than that one, think i will take it to local electrical shop to get checked out, may just be a worn capacitor or dry solder joints...
  • Hi Peter,

How bad is the humm? I checked out youtube and if the amp is the same as the one demonstrated that also seems to have a slight humm (although it could be the recording)

One good thing though is the person realised the microphone socket has a delay on it that you can use for a guitar effect
