2 Stringer options

Hi people,

I've build this basic fretless 2 stringer, but I'm having trouble getting new tunes out of it.

It's now tuned in E-e and it sounds ok, but I come down to the same tunes everytime I try something new.

I recorded it: naamloos.mp3

  • I finished my first home made CBG-a 2 stringer based on the YouTube video that Glenn Watt put up based on Shane Speal's 2 string "Chugger". Since I can't use power tools (too much carpal tunnel damage in the hands) a friend did the complicated machining bits. A 1/4 horsepower variable speed rotary tool on a stand is really a handy thing to have!

    I used a different box than Glenn's for my build, along with a 1.25" dowel and a humbucker pickup. I have it tuned D/C now. Discovered a problem with the bridge height, so it goes back to the garage shop to have a new bridge fitted and get the "flat cat" humbucker glued into place flat and level. Shall post images as soon as it is actually playable and finished. Discovered during final testing that pickups work a lot better when actually plugged into an amplifier. :-}

    My friend enjoyed doing the build so much that she's agitating to do a 2 stringer with a straight stick rather than a dowel.

  • Unison, i had to look that up, but leaving one string open that's what i ve been doing i guess. Maybe what i do is all there is. Thanks for your reply.
  • With a unison tuning, you can play it a lot like a single string diddley bow. Plus, you can play some intervals, mostly 3rds, 5ths and 7ths, by only placing the slide on one string and leaving the other open.
