Hi, I am making another CB Ukelele, a twelve fret soprano to be exact, but finances are not good right now, so I am trying to use materials that I have already got. For the neck I can use a 1 inch thick piece of Quarter sawn Douglas Fir or I could use a mortise and tenon joint on two shorter thicker lengths of Tulipwood. I plan to give this as a special gift, it's not a keeper, so I don't want to use substandard materials, so does one of these options sound practical, or am I not going to be getting good results with either option? The uke will have nylon strings.
All the best from Bill. :D

I am not a wood expert by any means, but strength wise, I can't see any reason not to use the fir for a uke.
It should be plenty strong enough.
