Hey everyone. New here. I recently came across a great donor neck for a cigar box guitar project. I think it's 3/4 scale classical guitar that a neighbor was tossing out. I'd love to pair this neck up with a large cigar box. I want to build in a resonator, so I need a large box. A 14"-16" wide box would work great. I have few cigar shops in the area. What brands should I be asking for? What brands make such a large box? Thanks!

  • Have a nice red for me when you stop in!
  • I'm liking the idea of a wine box. I have a "wine bar" a few blocks from my house and they actually use the old boxes to decorate the place. I'll pay them a visit. Thanks!
  • I have one of these boxes and It works great.  Biggest I could find here is 13 x 9" x 3".  It does have a lip around the top and bottom edges.

Heavier wood than a cigar box though.   http://stores.ebay.com/designcraft-industries?_trksid=p4340.l2563  john

  • TB,

I'm with you. I make my own because I can't get boxes where I live. Greg, it really isn't too difficult to build a decent box. That way, you can have the size you want / need. Check out "Homemade Resonator Boxes 101, v 2.0" here on CBN.
  • Or you can use a smaller resonator with a regular size box (unless you already have a resonator and need a box to fit).

Here is a link to Old Lowe's handmade resonators. http://smokehouseguitars.com/blognewsroll/?cat=38

  • Greg,

Fastest way to find what you're looking for is eBay. I found 4 Arturo Fuente King B boxes, sized 13" x 8 1/4", very quickly, for $9.99 each. Others to look for are the 11" Macanudo Gold, And some of the Padrons. It's very rare to find anything larger than 13", but spend some time on eBay, or alternatively, click the ad to the right for Cigar Box Deals to see if they have something like you want in stock.
