This 4 string the strings are way too high as they head to the bridge . They are fine towards the headstock .

ive checked tto see the neck is straight . The neck is 1/4” higher than the body. I’ve tried different bridge heights. What can I do. I’ve even thought about shimming to make the headstock side lower than the bridge side of the neck...to slope ....but it’s so weird...never had an issue this far off. If I change the bridge height the headstock side frets are touching the frets and it’s non playable . It’s a through the body neck. Here’s the rising up of strings photo although ...the description says it all...any advice ?

for some reason I can only reply here ....I’ve posted another add discussion sorry about that. I’ll try again tmw.

  • Hi Jon, I'm not sure if you have remedied this problem yet or not, but if you are stuck I have another suggestion should you need it.

  • Neck mounting angle is the culprit., may require a tear down., the butt end of the thru neck needs to be at least 1/8" higher than then where the same shaft passes thru the front of the box.,

  • Hi Jon, if you remove material from the bottom of the neck, where it joins the body, this will set the neck back, but won't that lower the neck in its "pocket", and still leave strings high.

I don't use the neck though method, but have tried it. For adjustment I work at the tail end, raising that part, whilst leaving the heal end as is. But, what makes this easier on my guitars is that I do not glue them in. I just undo bolts or screws and make adjustments.

  • Jon, it looks like Neck Angle is your problem? The neck seems to be tipping up instead of tipping back slightly? This is called Back Angle? That’s why you’re not able to get the strings at the optimal height? Del Puckett has a Neck building video on his channel, that explains Back Angle check it out? Good luck :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJNczxf7M84

    • I’ll try this although I tried a gentle shim ...there’s other issues ..but quit possible neck angle....

I’d have to remove wood from the bottom of the neck as opposed to the top...or lower the front box cut ...both are kinda precarious and difficult to know
  • Another ...might have to zoom in ...could it be the through body string retainer is lower than the box? I actually removed 1/4 already from that area because I thought that was the issue???
