I don't know how many people would be interested in chatting on voice, but I have set up a temporary voice chat server using Teamspeak 2. Teamspeak 2 is commonly used for gaming and other conference call type situations.

I personally prefer voice chatting over text chatting.

You need a computer with an Internet connection, a headset with a microphone, and the Teamspeak 2application installed.

You can download Teamspeak Version 2 here:

http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=downloads&archive=1

Make sure you download the client version and not the server version.

Once you have it installed, you just run Teamspeak 2, from the main window, click on Connection, and choose Quick Connect. Enter the IP address as:

68.209.183.22:8767

the password is:

revolution

You can either use voice activation mode or push to talk mode. You can change these settings under Settings, Sound Input/Output Settings.

The server is up and running now.  If folks find it useful, then we could certainly find a more permanent server to use.

Let me know if you have any questions or problems.

  • So, just me and Wes, eh? Okay, well it was worth a suggestion anyway.
  • OK..it works just fine!! Thanks Wes.

So, if anyone else want to make use of it, once you are able to connect, if you find yourself sitting in front of the computer doing other stuff, and you jump onto the TS server and find nobody there, you can just leave it open while you do other stuff. If you have your speakers turned on, you will hear an announcement when someone else joins.
  • I am on there now!

I also have Skype, and I know it works better, but you have to create a username and all that stuff. I didn't think folks would want to mess with it if it was too complicated.

This way, you can just sign into TS2 and sit there while you do other stuff and see if anyone happens along.

Just trying to keep it simple.

You know, we prolly could do something similar on Skype. I think it has a conference call feature. Not that your suggestion is bad mind you. I've wanted to have something like this as a weekly thing for a while.
