Here is a video of Rihard Johnston playing, it sounds like to me he has some sort of a double bass set up, his bass has a spring board effect to it somehow, how in the world is he doing this? I do notice he has a tom on the ground I think too, but I can't tell what h
e is doing..........please help, this on eis driving me crazy to figure out what he is doing.

Or something similar. These pedals will throw on the up as well as the down stroke of the pedal.
As far as the video posted by Matt, that is a dual pedal. You can see the linkage that runs horizontal over next to the high=hat for the second pedal. If you watch the leg in the original post, the leg is coming up on the second throw...
I was thinking maybe he had his bass mic'd and running some sort of dealy with it...to give it that extra ooomph, plus his bass sounds a bit electronic if that makes since, anyhow, I have been working my foot on my bass pedal and suitcase on and off most of the night ;-)

Don`t really think it is too difficult to work out, although I must say he does it very well.
Left foot is doint the hihat and snare, right foot is the kick drum.
Seems the guitar is tuned in an E at a spontanious guess), loose strings for the drone effect.
Going across one or more of the amps behind him (I suspect 2, but could be far off the mark here).
