score!

After finding this site a week ago, decided I would make/play a CBG.
Heck, the York PA CBG fest is next week. I've made the trip up there before from Reston VA for a British motorcycle swap meet. So I'm psyched to get some parts at the event.

I cant remember why, but several years ago, I asked the guy at the Tysons mall cigar shop if they sold empty boxes. He didnt have any, but when he did, sold them for $15 each. Wah?

So I'm internet searchin, looking at cigar boxes, trying to figure out what will work, and how much I'm going to shell out for shipping etc.. will it work? is it the right size? paper vs wood? I figured I'd roll the dice and eventually order a grab bag of boxes from cigars international or thompson cigar.

I head out to Einstein Bagel for a bagel-dog, with the wife. Listening to some Jug Fusion on the way. After lunch, headed over to the pet store - I can never remember if it's saturday or sunday that they host an adoption event. I guess it's not today. So we head down to fair oaks PETCO to see what they got (I know HART has an event on saturdays). That's where we got Lucifer - a dog that surely would have been put to sleep on account of his nastyness and unpredictability (they wont put my wife to sleep - go figure?).

We get down there and notice that there is some sort of outdoor event going on at Dogfish Head Ale house. My wife says "hey - there's a cigar shop" right in front of where we parked. We had unsuccessfully tried to find a cigar shop at the Dulles Mall a few evenings ago. We pet some dogs, drink a Dogfish draft, and hit the cigar shop on the way out.

Bingo! Bottom shelf of a display packed with boxes - $1 for paper, $2 for wood. She brings out some more from behind the counter while we are looking. I spend $5.25, on these boxes shown.

I drive home listing to Assjack (going to see hank 3 in a few weeks), thinking that the hardest part of my CBG project is complete. Well....at least it's a great start.

  • I got a couple of those Kuba boxes too. Couldn't pass them up. Once I tore out the plastic window in the top, I put in some black perforated aluminum (Lincaine) from Home Depot. The sheets break real easy along the lines of holes. How it will sound with such a large soundhole? No idea.

  • If the hardest part of the project involves petting canines and drinking Dogfish Head, you are in great shape.
  • I remember paying USA $ 2 for my cigar box. I recall seeing in resale stores (Goodwill and Salvation Army in the USA) wood and metal boxes some for about $ 0.30, and microphones and electronics too. I bought a tripod type thing for $ 4, using it for a microphone stand.
  • Everyone needs a black punch!!
  • Nice! I got three of those Kuba Deluxe boxes...
  • Good boxes! Happy building.

  • all good boxes you got there and a way better price than that other place $15 for a box is too much in my book ( unless there is a stoggie in it)
