  • Hi John,

I am about to try a reso using a milo tin lid set into the regular wooden lid, if you have a look at Shane's how2 play area you can see a Jim frets model using a paint can lid - sounds awesome! If you own a vibratory hand sander use that to thin out what ever piece of metal you choose to use. Have you tried making a CBG with a cookie tin? Sounds almost banjo like so the half metal and half wood sounds most dobro like (I think). Good luck and don't forget topost some cool pics mate.

    Regards,

  • the jello pan has i nice aluminum sound, got it cheap maybe a cupla dollars at most. i bought it fer looks too because it wasn,t plain looking.it could be used as well if it were flipped over. got some smaller angel food cake pans too that work real well for that aluminum sound that cones produce.

  • Mine is a 2.00 girl-scout cooking set lid. The cover is a .69 cent pot lid from the same thrift store.

Half the fun is looking for the right bits.
  • A cake or pie tin will work if it's stiff enough to hold the string tension. Or buy a ukulele resonator cone.
