  • Thanks very much Freddy for your fantastic comments

as regards making your sound well , you can go about it the way i did by bending wood to form the sound well or do it like the video shows that gene added or the other method is to try and find a small Tamborine and remove the skin and use the tamborine body as your sound well

all three methods work , some are easier than others

most off all enjoy what your doing , remember with cigar Box Guitars There's no Rules Go with what you feel

    Basics:

    1. The middle of the cone should be up and the bridge sits on top of it.

    2. The space under the cone must NOT be cut off from the inside of the box, so you need to rest the rim of the cone on a few blocks with plenty of space between them.

    3. the space above the cone MUST be cut off from the inside of the box, so you need to build a well around the cone and up to the opening in the box.

    4. You'll want to put a small sound hole in the box away from the cone. A couple of 3/8" inch holes is plenty. More than that will kill the bass.

You may not need a pickup. I would build it and see how loud it is first.

If you decide you do, the best option is an electromagnetic pickup between the cone and the neck... but you may lose some of the resonator effect. You can also glue a piezo to the cone, but be careful about routing your wires - aluminum is a very good electrical conductor and you could short your pickup if you're careless.
