Hey guys, I'm googling my head off waiting for all my bits to arrive, so I just have a couple of questions, the hinges that come on cigar boxes look a bit dinky, I dont want mine falling apart after 12 months could anyone recommend somewhere to get some good ones? Bear in mind that I'm in Australia so something online/ebay would be a better solution, I found these:

Also I saw some cool looking star shaped fretboard inlays on stew mac:

What the best way to install these? Chisel or dremel or other, I was looking at purchasing some fingerboards, are pre made electric guitar fingerboards suitable, such as theses:

The neck blanks on this site are Minimum Dimensions - 75mm x 48mm x 850mm (3" x 1 7/8" x 33.5")
these are maple bass blanks, one one of the red dog guitar youtube videos john recommends atleast 35 inches in length and obviously 2"x1".

Cheers

Brett

  • I just bought a dremel today, looks like a pretty handy little tool, they wanted $70 for the router stand, I passed ;)

A dremel with a router stand works well. The plastic Dremel brand router stand is fairly worthless though. Stew Mac sells a metal one that's supposed to be great. It's a bit pricy though. I did see where someone had built their own for cheap, but heck if I can remember where that was.

  • as for the fret inlays, i find a 6mm chisel and a steady hand gets great results. good luck with the build
