Hey everybody!  First post here.  I've been playing guitar for about 2 years now and ran across cigar box guitars by accident.  I'm actually a bit of a hobbyist woodworker and would LOVE to tackle a few of these guitars.

Are they any members in the KC area that would be willing to meet up with me somewhere and show me a thing or two about these guitars?  I'm pretty inquisitive and having one to actually hold and look at in detail will be a big help in getting me on my way to making one.

I'm still having a blast looking through all the pictures in the photo gallery and getting some really cool ideas.  This place is a great resource.

  • Welcome aboard!!!...I use to live in Raytown,Mo...in the 70s........Go Chiefs!

Get right in there, it's a blast working on CBG....and I haven't even finished one yet.....I have to wait for free time to work on it, but it's the best free time I spend....

  • I consider anything that either has holes in it, or that can have holes cut in it a potential sound hole cover! Look at your local thrift shop for materials.
  • I've got another question. Where does everyone find all the sound hole covers? I've seen a lot really cool looking grate covers and things. What are people using for them?
  • Excellent! I'd be happy to share what knowledge I have. I will shoot you an email. Thanks for replying!
  • I'm here! I'm one of but a scatter few avid cigar box guitarists here in KC.

Let's meet. Being a real woodworker, maybe we can help one another realize some very cool instruments. (I know nothing about woodworking!)

Email me at kevkraft_1@juno.com and I'll give you my number; we'll chat.

  • Thanks for the invite. That's a pretty far piece for me. But I'll keep you in find. I stopped by a cigar shop in town tonight and looked at what they had. I told them what I wanted the box for and they said they get people in all the time for CBGs. So apparently there are people in the area that make them. Maybe someone will see my little post. I also sent Kevin Kraft a message, but it looks like he's been MIA on here for a while. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
  • If you are ever in Oklahoma City you are more than welcome to see mine. Best advice is to do what you want and not to try and copy one or dig through the pictures and pick out things you like on lots of guitars and add it to yours.
  • Hopefully someone in the KC area will see this. I was able to score what I think is a decent box. But I would love to connect with some people in the area and get some better ideas and take a closer look at their stuff.

    Thanks everybody!
  • Kevin Kraft but I haven't heard from him lately.
