HELP,,,,I gess my eyes or bigger than my talent I was hoping some one could help me with wiring a resonator cbg with a 2 band tone+vol,eq and preamp with under the saddle piezo pickup with 9v. battery for a mandolin all this was bought already wired .here's my problem I also wont to put a small humbucker neck pick up with its on vol. and tone pots and be able to switch from front to back pickups and if posable to use both also the prewired kit I bought was wired with its on input jack and will I need to tap into those two wires with my front set up wiring

Freddy, the 2 wires coming from the prewired piezo/pre amp assembly are the ones you will remove from the jack. The switch (in this diagram) is a standard Gibson style 3 way. It will allow you to use the piezo/pre amp or the humbucker independently and to also combine both. With a humbucker in the circuit you should also ground the strings, usually through the bridge.

When ordering the parts you should use a 500k audio taper potentiometer for the volume, a 500k linear taper pot for the tone and a .047 microfarad capacitor on the tone pot. I can provide the wiring harness so you only have to cut the jack off your assembly and connect those wires to the switch.

    Good luck!

  • Hi, I just checked one of my old CBGs - it has 2 mini humbuckers and piezo disc pick ups going via a 5way switch and the output goes from the 5way to a takamine preamp. Output then goes to a switch for the mini amp and speakers or to the output jack.

On my to do list is to add a bypass for the preamp because it gets through 9v batteries very quickly and once the preamp goes all output stops. This circuit works - but to do something similar would involve chopping into the input from the piezo into the preamp - I am not sure how easy it is to work with an under saddle piezo wires as I use the mongrel piezo discs with big wires rather than the pedigree underbridge piezo. If you could post a photo of the wiring you have it would be helpful. Regards, David
  • Hi,
If you look through the artec wiring pdf and pick a 2 pick up with a 3 way switch configuration. Wire up one as per diagram and simply excange the output and earth from the preamp for the other pickup in the diagram. I am not sure what effect the preamp will have on a mixed signal (magnetic PUP and disc piezo) as I have only mixed these without a preamp. (I am interested to find out!).
    Good luck,
    David
