Yep, like Slowpaw says except I prefer to screw the neck to the supports in case I need to take it out to adjust something (seems like I usually do!) I will usually glue and screw some support blocks inside the box, but then screw (only) the neck to them. Most of my necks terminate inside the box as well.
I usually glue the support piece to the bottom of the box and glue the neck onto it, i keep the support piece inside the ends of the box and don't extend it through either end of the box, the neck can extend through as a tail and the main neck extension. The support piece can also be screwed in at either end if you wish, minimum weight, maximum rigidity! (-:
